POE Scholarships

Scholarships through National AGO

The AGO headquarters web site at http://www.agohq.org/education/indexpoe.html includes this information about scholarships through the National AGO.

Limited scholarship aid is available to cover full or partial registration fees for POEs. The online POE scholarship application is available here from mid-January until the May 15 application deadline. Scholarship applications are reviewed monthly beginning in February.

The application asks questions of both the student and her/his parent(s) and also requires a letter of recommendation from the student’s organ or piano teacher.

We can save you a trip to that site with these two links, also to pages on that site. Both are online forms that can be completed and submitted directly to AGO Headquarters.

The Warren Hutton POE Scholarship

Birmingham AGO Warren Hutton POE Scholarship is made available to qualified students who apply to and are accepted by any POE or POEA sponsored by the AGO. (To attend a POE, basic keyboard proficiency is required but previous organ study is not necessary.) Applicants ages 13-18 must be residents of one of the states comprising Region IV and have the support of a Region IV AGO Chapter.

In making the award, the Competition and Scholarship Committee of the Birmingham Chapter will consider recommendations from the applicant's keyboard teacher and the Dean of the AGO Chapter that supports the application, as well as a personal statement from the applicant describing his or her interest in the organ.

The Hutton POE Scholarship Application form may be downloaded here. Applications must be received by April 25. Scholarship recipients will be notified by May 10 and must confirm their acceptance of the award by May 20.
